Rowan obtained his BSc.(Hons) from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), then went on to pursue his PhD at the Australian National University under the supervision of Professor Anthony Hill. After stints at Oxford and Edinburgh as a post-doc in the Weller and Arnold groups respectively, he took up a position at NUS in 2014. He was awarded an ARC Future Fellowship in 2022, which he assumed at the University of Queensland in 2023.
